Asper School of Business - Ladybug Foundation Marketing Project
asper

A group of four fourth-year students from the Asper School of Business got an opportunity to use their breadth of knowledge in creating a marketing plan for The Ladybug Foundation Education Program. The Marketing Management course had students donate their expertise in developing a marketing plan for a Manitoba business and put on a trade show highlighting key strengths and opportunities of the organization. As seen in the picture above The Ladybug Foundation would like to thank: Meng Yang, Alix Billinkoff, Brad Loeb and Jeff Gagne for their great efforts in making this project such a success. Thanks!

Hannah has Lunch with Sir Bob Geldof
bobGeldof
Hannah had the opportunity to have lunch with Sir Bob Geldof and found out more than she could have ever imagined. To Hannah, Mr. Geldof was a rockstar. She knew he worked very hard with Bono to help third world poverty but what she didn't know was that Mr. Geldof had more in common with the people Hannah helps than she had thought. Mr. Geldof told Hannah that when he was a little boy, his mom died and when he was a teenager he lived on the streets for a while. The Dublin five star hotel he now stays at was across the street from the soup kitchen he used to visit. He told her that the soup kitchen was so important to him because it provided him with food, love and care when he was in his deepest darkest moment.

As the two were leaving the restaurant, Mr. Geldof hugged Hannah and said "Hannah, do you know who Gandhi is?" Hannah replied "Yes, he is one of my heroes". Mr. Geldof smiled and said "When I think of your work to make change in the lives of the homeless and hungry, I think of what Ghandhi said 'BE THE CHANGE'" and Hannah finished his sentence with 'YOU WANT TO SEE'. The two smiled at each other and felt the hope in their hearts. Hope for a world full of caring.

Hannah's meeting with Canada's Governor-General, Michaelle Jean
When Hannah was given the opportunity to have lunch with her excellency, the right honourable Michaelle Jean (Governor General of Canada), Hannah was asked to prepare an answer to the question "How do women define success?"

Hannah's response to this questions was:

Success is...

We have to stop separating humanity's and join together as human beings. We need to stop seeing color of skin, gender and nationality. This creates a world of us and them and when we do this, we don't work together as human beings. We need to see women's success as humanity success. We are in this world together and until we focus on humanity's success we will be forever divided.

Success is...

working as hard as you can to reach your goal.

Success is...

not being afraid to take a chance on what you believe in, no matter what or who tries to stand in your way.

Success is...

believing that you can, knowing that you're strong enough and the will power to never ever ever give up.

If you can dream it, you can do it.

The World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child
“I am the youngest member of the jury panel of children from around the world that selects the annual recipient of the World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child in Stockholm – sort of like a Nobel Prize for people in the world helping children. I get to do this for 7 years! Nelson Mandela is a patron of this organization!”
- Hannah
The World’s Children’s Prize for the Rights of the Child is based in Stockholm, Sweden. It is a project that allows Hannah’s understanding of issues that affect children’s rights around the world to grow and flourish. On the jury panel, Hannah represents children fighting for other children’s rights, especially the homeless. Learn more at www.childrensworld.org.

The National Film Board of Canada - Hannah’s Story

“The National Film Board finished their film about the work I do. They promised me that after following me for 2 years, the story would really be about the people I care about most - our hungry and homeless. And they did. I love them for doing that. My great friend Rick is in that film and that is the most important part. He knows what life is like when you are hungry & homeless. He speaks right from his beautiful heart.”

Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 – Courage To Soar Conference
August, 2007
MEET THE YOUNG AND THE POWERFUL –BARBARA AGGERHOLM - WATERLOO

Laurier hosts those who aren’t waiting to become world leaders

WATERLOO

She’s 11 years old and already heads a charitable foundation that has raised more than $1 million to help homeless people.

The reasons are pretty simple, says the Winnipeg girl, attending a conference at Wilfred Laurier University this week for talented young Canadians.

“I have a wonderful family. I have a wonderful home. I have a fridge to go to and a bed to sleep in, and a lot of people in Winnipeg don’t,” she says.

“And we all have the power to help them and we’re not. So why don’t we?”

It’s that kind of spirit that has drawn 39 prizewinning youth under 20 years of age to the leadership conference, organized by Youth in Motion and hosted by the Laurier School of Business and Economics.

Every year, the national, non-profit organization names the Top 20 Canadians under 20 years of age who show leadership skills.

Hannah was a winner in 2006.

“There’s some unbelievable young people in this country,” said Youth in Motion co-founder Akela Peoples.

Whether they’re working on a cancer cure, writing a musical or bringing clean water to families in developing countries, “they have a big dream and they won’t stop until they accomplish it.”

In the conference room yesterday, Hannah stands out among the group of teens and twentysomethings – but only because of her age.
