Why the name ‘Ladybug’?
Hannah chose the name ‘Ladybug’ because ladybugs represent good luck. Hannah believed that people who are living on the streets and in poverty need a lot of good luck, so she thought that was an appropriate name.
What are the origins of The Ladybug Foundation?
After Hannah’s mom empowered her to ‘do something because then your heart won’t feel so sad’, Hannah promptly asked for a lunch date with her grade 1 teacher, Mrs. Hildebrand. During that meeting they started organizing bake and art sales.
Hannah still wanted to do more, so she started asking ‘Big Bosses’ for lunch. It was just before her first organized ‘Big Boss Luncheon’ in Winnipeg, MB. that The Ladybug Foundation became an official charitable organization. (May 2004)
